I had waited so long to become a Mom. I felt great, perfect pregnancy……until…..three days before she was born. I had a ultrasound and they found that m y daughter Brianna had hydrocephalus or what is often called water on the brain. I was devastated. Little did I know that was the least of my problems. The day after she was born we found out the reason for the hydrocephalus…..my beautiful precious daughter had a fairly large tumor in the center of her brain. Words cannot describe what I felt at that moment. It was worse than I could have ever imagined.
Brianna would then go on to endure over 20 surgeries, the first surgery being when she was only 3 weeks old. In addition, countless hospitalizations, MRI’s, Cat Scans, shunt x-rays blood draws, infections and two and a half years of chemotherapy.
Today, Brianna struggles daily with the devastating late effects that were caused by her brain tumor and/or the treatments for her tumor. She has daily seizures, takes numerous medications, has to wear braces, has hypothalamic obesity which causes her to gain weight at an alarming rate of which there is no cure. These are just some of the things that we deal with on a daily basis.
Brianna is one of the most amazing little girls that I know. She is my hero and I am thankful every single day that I still have her. She loves with all she has and find good in everyone. She loves to laugh and tease people. She is outgoing and sensitive and makes me laugh every single day. Thank you for letting me share a piece of our story with you. And thank you to Thea’s Stars for all that they do!
